What Engineers need to know about Contracts - live and in person in Rugby 8-9 July 2025

After a short break due to the Covid19 pandemic (5 years?) we are returning to running this course face to fact in Rugby for a full 2 days.

Will be a great opportunity to network and of course to interrogate me about what I meant.

Hope to see you there.

Full details here

Just to confirm:  this is going ahead and we are getting pretty full for numbers - so if you are interested, best to book now.

What Engineers need to know about Contracts - IChemE online 20/21/22 October 2025 pm to be rescheduled

(We have rescheduled the online event from April 2025)

The ever popular What Engineers Need to know about Contracts course is being run twice by IChemE this year - once online in October 2025, and once face to face in July 2025.

The face to face event is of course limited in numbers, and is getting pretty full already so if you want a couple of days in Rugby better get booking.

The online course is pretty much the same content but 3 half days rather than 2 full days, and of course it is much easier to accommodate any number of delegates.

Full details of the courses are available here.

Hope to see you on one or the other (honestly no need to book both...)

(BTW this is not the highly regarded course that goes into details of the IChemE suite of model contracts, though we do mention them).

IChemE - what engineers needs to know about Contracts - 25 to 27 November 2024

Gosh this has been a year - busiest ever for PAWA Consulting. And some family issues.

Anyway as we get to the end I finally have a minute to promote one of our regular open courses for IChemE.

This is online, from 10am to 1pm uk time for 3 days 25/26/27 November 2024.

We shall also be running it in person in Rugby in 2025 (gosh, 2025 - sounds like a date from science fiction).

Full details of the course are here.

IChemE What Engineers Need to Know about Contracts - July 2024

This ever popular course has been revised to 3xhalf day courses, and will be run on 10/11/12 July 2024.

A fuller face to face event can be run face to face as an in-house event (we have 2 in January 2024!)

As always full details can be found on the IChemE site here.  AND there is 25% off until 2nd Feb 2024.

Running it over 3 half days gives us a little more breathing space and has allowed me to drop in some more case studies and examples. And some links to some of the other useful IChemE courses such as the one on Project Management and the one on the Model forms of contract (neither of which I run so you can believe me when I say they are good).

Please note that this is entitled "Engineers" and despite being run by IChemE is not just relevant to Chemical Engineers.  Or indeed just to Engineers.

Hope to see you (online) then.

If you are wondering if we will return it to face to face open courses in the future?  Well maybe.  If there is demand.  So if that is what you want, please let us know.  But we intend to carry on online for the future to help reach international engineers.

IChemE - What Engineers need to know about contracts - 14-16 June 2023

We are running the popular What Engineers need to know about contracts course for the first time this year on 14-16 June 2023.  We are still running it online, but will at some point try face to face again.  Hopefully later this year.

The online course is 3 half days (mornings UK time).  It is based on our F2F course which is two full days, and so we had to strip it down a bit and go at pace when we did it in two half days.  To give us more time for discussion (and more content) we are expanding it to 3 half days.

IChemE: What Engineers need to know about Contracts

The perennially popular course on what Engineers need to know about contracts (- but don't get taught on their Chem Eng courses, is my suggestion for a subtitle) is being run online on 28th and 30th November 2022.

Full details are here.

This is two half days on separate days, and assumes no previous knowledge or understanding of contracts or the law.  In fact that is rather the point.  Starts 10am UK time, finishes at 1pm UK time each day.

The course is based on the contract law of England and Wales, but discusses other legal systems and so is (hopefully) more generally applicable around the world.

Hope to see you thereOr at your place.  We have run this both online and the  traditional in person two full day course for clients recently, and the team at IChemE are always happy to arrange to do so for your organisation.

What Engineers need to know about Contracts.

I have had confirmed that the perennially popular course on what Engineers need to know about contracts (which could have the subtitle - but don't get taught on their Chem Eng courses) is being run online 29/30th November 2021.  Small group but going ahead, so if you fancy having a small and intimate course, here is your chance

Engineering Procurement - 9 & 12 November 2021

We are restarting running the course on Engineering Procurement with IChemE. Details are here.

This is 2 half days with a few days in between to allow delegates to think and apply what we are discussing, and then bring it to the second session for more detailed discussion.

This is online, and based on the face to face one day course that we hope to one day return to running.

The topic is fairly self explanatory, but just in case we are looking at principles of procurement but related to the highly technically specified world of engineering (in general, but Chemical Engineering in particular).

Hope to see you there.

Last call for IChemE - What Engineers Need to Know about Contracts 9/10 August 2021

This regularly popular course is being run again by IChemE on 9th/10th August 2021 as 2 half day sessions.  The course is live to allow for discussion and interaction.  And of course, delivered by me.

We have fewer than a dozen attendees at the moment so there will be a good chance to interact rather than be lectured at.

We are sticking with online courses for the time being.  No doubt we shall go back to face to face training when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Full details are here.

We are in discussions about some other courses - face to face when allowed or online, and as downloadable webinars.  Full details if and when go ahead.  But it looks likely that they will be on the schedule for first run this year (2021)

IChemE - What Engineers Need to Know about Contracts - 3/4 March 2021

The first 2021 running of What Engineers Need to know about Contracts is next week, and we still have spaces (the joy of running courses on line!).

Let's hope that we might even be able to have the second event as a face to face one!

Dates are 3/4 March 2021 (online - 2x 1/2 days)

and 9/10 August 2021 - which might (just might)  be face to face in Rugby.  But don't hold your breath.

Full details are here.

2021 IChemE What Engineers Need to Know about Contracts

This course seems to be increasingly popular, and we have 2 dates in the diary already for 2021.  More may be added if there is enough demand (and possibly some other courses that I shall present).

Merry Christmas folks.

IChemE - What Engineers need to know about Contracts 23/24 November 2020

We are now confirmed to go ahead with the scheduled course in November.  This is 2 half days were we try to cover the content we do in 2 full days face to face.  We run it as 2 separate dates because we think that attention spans shrink a bit when online.  I know mine does.

Full details from IChemE here.

We are also getting an increasing number of requests to run this in-house, and of course we are able to do that (online at the moment, and face to face in future). This can be the full 2 day course or the 2 half days (including both on a single day, but that is not our preference.

BTW, there should be a short article from me in the Chemical Engineer soon (probably next year now) explaining why Engineers need to understand Contracts.

We've had a couple of last minute drop outs, so if you are interested there are spaces which can be booked at IChemE - here.

IChemE - Restarting Supply Chains - 5th August 2020

Whatever we think about the current pandemic  - whether concerns are overblown, whether it will be over soon, or whether it is serious and we are stuck with it for months - it is clear that there has been major disruption to supply chains.   We can hope that everything will very quickly get back to normal - but there is an element of wishful thinking there.

You might think that this is a great chance to restructure your supply chains - or that things will quickly revert to exactly what they were before.

With IChemE we are running an online seminar that helps to cover all of these topics, and will help you to think through your options and choices.  And we hope to cover the possible disruptions caused by the UK leaving the EU REACH regime a bit too.

As with any disruption, you can wish and hope - or you can plan and organise.  We hope to help you with your planning.

There is a guest speaker that we are not quite able to announce - watch this space.

Full details and booking arrangements are here.

Additional date for IChemE What every Engineer needs to know about Contracts 7/8 September 2020

Just finished running this course today, which was great fun apart from Microsoft deciding to install a new version of Windows10 this morning.  Every trainer's worst nightmare. Running around I got my third laptop (the second spare) to avoid installing the new system and get on with running the event.  Though I was a little flustered at the start...

Anyway, interest has been high enough that we have decided to run another session on 7/8 September rather than wait till November 23/24.  As long as interest is high enough we shall run both courses, so if you are interested you will have a choice of dates.

The new date is not on the website yet, but I shall let you know when you can start booking.

IChemE What Engineer's need to know about contracts - 10/11 June 2020

Well, there has been a big response to this course.  Which is nice, and also raises questions.  Is the topic particularly relevant at the moment? Or do people have time on their hands.

Hope to find out tomorrow.
We can squeeze more people on - but you would have to book right this minute.  Booking here.

You might be better off waiting until the next running (and it is a live event so it is a real run through not a recording) on 23/24 November 2020.

IChemE online - What Engineers Need to Know about Contracts - 10/11 June 2020

We hope to run the in person (face to face) event in Rugby 22/23 October 2020.

But additionally we are looking to run an online version 10/11 June 2020 - details here.

The online session will be shorter, as we find that people prefer shorter sessions.  The face to face event obviously gives more opportunity for people to interact and share there experiences, but we shall try to replicate the content as much as possible.  The material is being developed now, and will cover the same ground but in slightly different form.

This is different from the webinar content that IChemE present - those are recorded and available to purchase at any time.  This will be an actual online seminar and so questions will be welcomed (and answered I hope!)

I hope that you will join us.

online training updates

Well, to be honest update is a little bit optimistic.  What I can tell you is that I shall be running two new online courses - one for CIPS, and one for IChemE - if all goes well in the development.  What I cannot tell you yet is the titles and timings, though we are hoping to run the IChemE course in early June.

More details as things develop - stay in, and stay safe.
